Job Description

Why you’ll love this role:

As a Full Stack Engineer supporting the Marketing department at Newsela, you will keep our websites fast, reliable, and fresh, and build the integrations and programs that help them perform. Marketing relies on its web presence to tell our story, generate demand, and measure what works, and you will be the engineer who makes that possible.

This is a hands-on role for an engineer who wants to deliver high-quality work, build strong habits around velocity and craft, and grow alongside experienced teammates. You will own assigned features from implementation through release, with guidance on scoping and design from senior engineers, and you will use AI tools as a standard part of how you build, test, and troubleshoot.

You will partner closely with Marketing, Engineering, Product Management, and Product Design to turn real business needs into clear, actionable work, and then ship it.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Deliver High-Quality Work, On Time: Write high-quality, well-tested code across our marketing websites and campaign landing pages using AI-assisted development practices to maintain high velocity and standard-setting execution.
  • Own Features from Implementation to Release: Own assigned web features, interactive tools, and campaign landing pages through build, testing, and launch, with guidance on architecture and scoping from senior engineering partners.
  • Maintain and Improve Our Websites: Handle the ongoing maintenance, updates, and enhancements that keep our marketing sites accurate, secure, and performing well for visitors and for the Marketing team.
  • Build Integrations, Data Pipelines, and MarTech Connections: Help build, integrate, and maintain connections between Webflow, Marketo, Salesforce, and internal APIs to ensure accurate lead flow, data hygiene, and robust analytics tracking (GA4, GTM, RedTrack, Pendo, and DataGrail).
  • Write Well-Tested Software: Meet the team’s quality bar with thoughtful automated and manual testing, incorporating AI-assisted development practices as part of your standard workflow.
  • Help Validate AI-Integrated Features: Contribute to the testing and validation of AI-integrated features, with support from senior engineers on evaluation approach.
  • Turn Ambiguity into Action: Partner with Engineering, Product Management, and Product Design to understand requirements and raise the questions that sharpen ambiguous work into clear, actionable tasks.
  • Contribute to Reliable Systems: Follow best practices for observability and quality, and use AI tooling to help troubleshoot and resolve issues quickly.
  • Support Privacy & In-App Ops: Assist with user onboarding and event tracking in Pendo while supporting automated compliance, consent management, and privacy workflows via DataGrail.
  • Support Smooth Production Releases: Follow established deployment practices and monitor system stability after release so launches land cleanly.

Why you’re a great fit:

  • 2+ years of professional experience in software engineering, ideally with exposure to marketing websites, web applications, or similar customer-facing products.
  • Full Stack & Webflow Foundation: Hands-on experience developing within Webflow supported by strong foundational front-end skills (HTML5, CSS/SCSS, JavaScript) and back-end integration capabilities.
  • Analytics & Tagging Expertise: Demonstrated experience configuring tags, triggers, variables, custom event listeners, and data pipelines in Google Tag Manager (GTM), RedTrack, and Google Analytics (GA4).
  • MarTech Ecosystem: Exposure to or experience working with enterprise marketing platforms (Marketo, Salesforce) and product analytics/experience tools (Pendo).
  • Quality-Minded: Experience writing well-tested software, using version control and code review, and following established deployment practices.
  • AI-Fluent Builder: Enthusiasm for using AI tools in your daily workflow for development, testing, and troubleshooting, along with good judgment about when to trust and when to verify their output.
  • Privacy & Compliance Awareness: Knowledge of privacy/consent operations (such as DataGrail) and web compliance standards (GDPR, CCPA).
  • Collaborative Communicator: Clear written and verbal communication in English, and the ability to ask sharp questions, work with non-technical partners, and turn loosely defined requests into well-scoped tasks.
  • Self-Directed Contractor: Reliable, organized, and comfortable owning your work in a remote, asynchronous environment, with the ability to overlap with our team during Eastern Standard Time (EST) core working hours.

Additional Role Details:

  • This contract position is paid a monthly rate (USD).
  • This person must be located in one of the following countries: Argentina; Brazil; Chile; Colombia; Costa Rica.
  • Please note that given the nature of the position, this role will not be eligible to participate in company-sponsored benefits.
  • The contract is estimated to last 12 months with the potential for extension, though an extension is not guaranteed.

All offers of employment are contingent upon the successful completion of a background check as part of our pre-employment process.

🎯 Who is this job for?

This role is suitable for a Junior to Mid-level Full Stack Engineer with at least two years of professional experience building and maintaining customer-facing websites, preferably with Webflow, HTML, CSS/SCSS, JavaScript, backend integrations, and automated testing. They should be familiar with marketing technology and analytics tools such as Marketo, Salesforce, GTM, GA4, RedTrack, Pendo, DataGrail, and privacy standards including GDPR and CCPA, as well as AI-assisted development and troubleshooting. The person should be comfortable owning features from scoping through release, developing landing pages and integrations, maintaining websites, validating tracking and AI features, supporting deployments, and collaborating asynchronously with technical and non-technical teams.

💬 Potential Interview Questions

How would you structure a Webflow-based marketing site to support custom HTML, CSS, and JavaScript while keeping it maintainable?

I would use Webflow for content and layout management, while isolating custom behavior in modular JavaScript and well-organized stylesheets. I would document dependencies, use consistent naming conventions, and avoid tightly coupling custom code to fragile DOM structures.

How would you implement and validate a lead flow from a Webflow form through Marketo and Salesforce?

I would map the required fields, consent status, campaign identifiers, and ownership rules before implementing the integration. I would test successful submissions, validation failures, duplicate handling, retries, and end-to-end record synchronization across both platforms.

How do you configure Google Tag Manager for reliable GA4 event tracking?

I would define a consistent data layer, then configure variables, triggers, and GA4 event tags based on explicit tracking requirements. I would validate events in GTM Preview, browser developer tools, and GA4 DebugView, while checking that consent settings are respected.

How would you track interactions on a dynamic campaign landing page?

I would use delegated event listeners or stable data attributes so tracking remains reliable when content changes dynamically. Events would include meaningful names and parameters, and I would test them across browsers and consent states before release.

What steps would you take to improve the performance of a marketing website?

I would measure performance using tools such as Lighthouse and Core Web Vitals, then optimize images, JavaScript execution, third-party scripts, caching, and critical rendering paths. I would prioritize changes based on user impact and verify improvements after deployment.

How would you design an integration with an internal API used by marketing pages?

I would define the API contract, validate inputs and outputs, handle timeouts and error responses, and avoid exposing sensitive credentials in client-side code. I would also add logging, monitoring, automated tests, and fallback behavior appropriate to the user experience.

How do GDPR and CCPA requirements affect analytics and marketing integrations?

Tracking and data collection should be controlled by consent, with clear purposes, opt-out mechanisms, and appropriate data minimization. I would ensure GTM, GA4, Marketo, Pendo, and related tools do not execute or transmit restricted data before the required consent is available.

How would you test a feature that includes an AI-powered capability?

I would define expected behavior and evaluation criteria, then test representative, edge-case, and adversarial inputs for correctness, safety, consistency, and latency. AI-generated results would be verified with deterministic checks where possible, human review, and regression test cases.

What automated tests would you write for a marketing form and its integrations?

I would cover client-side validation, accessibility behavior, event tracking, consent handling, API responses, and successful and failed submissions. Integration or end-to-end tests would verify that valid leads reach the expected systems with correct attribution and field mappings.

How would you troubleshoot a production issue where campaign conversions suddenly dropped?

I would compare the timing of the drop with recent releases, inspect browser and server logs, verify form submissions, and check GTM, GA4, consent tools, and downstream CRM records. I would reproduce the issue, identify whether it is a user experience or measurement problem, apply a safe fix, and monitor results after release.
