Job Description

About us

We're building an open, safe and sustainable marketplace for the gamers of today and tomorrow. Our marketplace supports more than 20 m+ active users (and growing fast!), provides a level of trust, safety and market accessibility unparalleled to none. We're proud of what we've accomplished in such a short time and look forward to sharing this journey with you. Join us as we continue to scale, diversify our portfolio, and grow with the evolving community of gamers.

About the team

We are a cross-functional team of 5-10 people with designers, backend, frontend, mobile, and data engineers. They are supported by a platform engineering team. We move fast, experiment, learn a lot, and build new products for our growing base of 10+ million active users.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize your expertise to design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve our software.

  • Produce code that reads like poetry and takes full ownership of your work: builds, ships, and maintains your codebase to the highest standards as we scale.

  • Raise the bar of our entire technology stack: detect and act upon inefficiencies in architecture, codebase design, and/or implementations with O(n!) complexity.

  • Develop new features while in product discovery, bring innovations to vendor tooling, and launch solutions that will affect user growth, service quality, and sales metrics.

  • Contribute to the development of one of our flagship products: Digital, Physical, and/or Payments & Risk.

  • Effectively partner with product managers, fellow engineers, designers, and the entire cross-functional product team working towards top user value.

  • Deliver measurable impact, track outcomes, and bring continuous improvements to dramatically boost our team's impact.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience developing with React; preferably with TypeScript.

  • Experience in communicating with cross-functional and technical teams, as well as product management to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and engineering/product strategy.

  • Basic understanding of GraphQL, Express, CSS Modules, SASS.

  • Knowledge of AI coding tools: Claude, OpenCode, Cursor and Codex.

  • Background in building complex user-facing features, and writing well-structured, efficient, and maintainable code.

Nice to have

  • Basic knowledge of Redis.

Salary: EUR 55.000-70.000 a year

Salary ranges may vary. We're seeking candidates with varied experience levels; from individual contributors to functional leaders in this space.

We're an international team and our business language of choice is English. Good English level is required, proficiency is preferred.

๐ŸŽฏ Who is this job for?

This role is suitable for a Middle-level Frontend Engineer with at least 3 years of experience building complex user-facing applications with React and preferably TypeScript.

The candidate should know GraphQL, Express, CSS Modules, SASS, AI coding tools, and ideally Redis, while writing efficient, maintainable code and communicating effectively in English with technical and cross-functional teams.

They should be familiar with designing, developing, testing, deploying, maintaining, and improving scalable features, collaborating during product discovery, identifying technical inefficiencies, and owning solutions from concept through measurable business impact.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Potential Interview Questions

How would you structure a complex React feature using TypeScript to keep it maintainable as the product scales?

I would separate presentation, domain logic, data access, and shared UI components. TypeScript interfaces and discriminated unions would define clear contracts, while custom hooks would encapsulate reusable state and behavior.

How would you optimize a React application serving millions of active users?

I would measure performance first using profiling and real-user metrics, then optimize rendering with memoization, component boundaries, virtualization, and code splitting. I would also minimize unnecessary network requests and ensure efficient caching and pagination.

How would you design a GraphQL data layer for a complex marketplace feature?

I would define focused queries and mutations with strong TypeScript types, handle loading, error, and empty states consistently, and use normalized caching where appropriate. I would avoid over-fetching and coordinate with backend engineers on pagination, authorization, and schema evolution.

How would you handle state management for a feature involving product data, filters, cart changes, and payment status?

I would keep local UI state local and use a dedicated server-state solution or GraphQL cache for remote data. Shared client state would be limited to genuinely cross-component concerns, with explicit state transitions and predictable error recovery.

How would you ensure a user-facing React feature is accessible and responsive?

I would use semantic HTML, keyboard navigation, visible focus states, proper labels, and accessible error messages. I would test across viewport sizes and validate the feature with automated accessibility checks and manual screen-reader testing.

How would you identify and fix an O(n!) or otherwise inefficient implementation in a frontend codebase?

I would reproduce the issue, profile the relevant path, and analyze the algorithm’s time and space complexity. Depending on the use case, I might replace nested searches with maps or sets, use memoization, reduce repeated work, or move processing to a more suitable layer.

How would you organize styling with CSS Modules and SASS in a large React application?

I would use CSS Modules to scope component styles and SASS for variables, mixins, nesting, and shared design primitives. I would establish naming and layering conventions to prevent specificity conflicts and keep responsive behavior close to the relevant component.

How would you test and deploy a complex React feature?

I would cover business logic with unit tests, component behavior with integration tests, and critical user journeys with end-to-end tests. Before deployment, I would use automated checks, observability, feature flags where appropriate, and a rollback strategy.

How could Redis support a frontend-related marketplace feature?

Redis would typically be used behind the API for caching frequently requested data, session information, rate limiting, or short-lived marketplace state. The frontend should treat it as an implementation detail and correctly handle stale data, cache misses, and failures.

How would you use AI coding tools such as Cursor, Claude, or Codex responsibly?

I would use them to accelerate exploration, boilerplate creation, refactoring, and test generation, while treating all output as untrusted code. I would verify correctness, security, performance, licensing, and consistency with the codebase through review and automated tests.
