Job Description
Remote · Eastern Hemisphere (timezone overlap required)
FINN is a fintech company building simple and transparent products that improve financial well-being for underbanked employees. Our core offering gives people access to wages they have already earned, alongside tools to help them manage money better, build savings, access insurance, earn additional income, and use fairer financial services.
Founded in 2022, FINN is the largest player in the early wage access space in Southeast Asia and is expanding rapidly into new markets globally. We are looking for ambitious builders who take ownership, move fast, and want to shape products that create meaningful impact in people’s lives.
This is a high-ownership role. You'll report to the VP of Engineering and lead our frontend team (currently 3, scaling to 5+). You'll shape technical direction, ship product, and raise the bar, not manage from a distance.
We're giving you significant responsibility and expecting you to run with it.
What you'll do
- Own the frontend experience end-to-end across web and mobile (Angular + Ionic) from problem shaping through production
- Drive complex features: dig into the problem, design the approach, ship fast, and iterate based on real usage
- Set and evolve technical direction, architecture, patterns, tooling, and developer experience
- Partner with product and design to define solutions, not just execute specs
- Write a lot of code , this is a hands-on role first, leadership second
- Mentor engineers and build a team culture of quality, speed, and ownership
How we work
We're a small team that values clear thinking over heavy process. Engineers get real context on the "why" and autonomy on the "how." We ship frequently, learn from production, and make pragmatic tradeoffs. We plan enough to move confidently but never so much that we slow down.
AI in our workflow
AI is becoming core to how we build. We use LLMs daily for coding, debugging, automated code reviews, design doc reviews, and we're building internal tooling to push this further in and out of the Engineering team. We're looking for someone who treats AI as a force multiplier and actively helps the team get meaningfully better at it, not just a passive user.
What we're looking for
- Proven track record shipping complex user-facing products (web + mobile ideal)
- Strong product instincts, you push back when something doesn't feel right for the user
- Deep TypeScript fundamentals (component architecture, state management, performance)
- Experience mentoring engineers and setting team standards
- Comfort with ambiguity: you can take a rough problem and turn it into a shipped solution
- Pragmatic judgment on architecture vs. shipping and learning
Our stack is Angular + Ionic. Strong engineers from React, Vue, or other modern frameworks ramp quickly, we care more about fundamentals than specific framework experience.
This role probably isn't for you if
- You aren’t comfortable with some level of ambiguity ambiguity
- You default to large rewrites when the problem needs solving in days
- You optimize for architectural purity over learning from real users
- You need a lot of structure or guidance to do your best work
Why join
- Your work directly shapes the product experience for hundreds of thousands of users
- Small, high-caliber team, minimal bureaucracy, fast feedback loops, clear business impact
- Real ownership and technical leadership as we scale internationally
- A seat at the table in defining how frontend engineering evolves here
- Location: #EMEA #APJ
🎯 Who is this job for?
This role is suitable for a Senior or Lead Frontend Engineer with deep TypeScript expertise and experience delivering complex, user-facing web and mobile products.
The ideal candidate should be skilled in component architecture, state management, performance optimization, technical direction, mentoring, and modern frontend frameworks such as Angular, Ionic, React, or Vue.
They should be comfortable owning ambiguous problems end-to-end, partnering with product and design, shaping solutions, shipping iteratively, improving engineering practices, and using AI tools to enhance development workflows.
💬 Potential Interview Questions
How would you structure a scalable Angular application that supports both web and Ionic mobile experiences?
I would organize the application around domain-based feature modules, shared UI primitives, and clear service boundaries. Platform-specific concerns should be isolated behind reusable interfaces so business logic can be shared while web and mobile interactions remain optimized for each platform.
How would you manage complex state in an Angular and Ionic application?
I would distinguish local component state from shared domain state and use a predictable state-management approach such as NgRx or lightweight injectable stores where appropriate. State transitions should be explicit, testable, and kept close to the feature that owns them.
How would you improve the performance of a financial product used by hundreds of thousands of users?
I would measure first using browser profiling, Web Vitals, network traces, and real-user monitoring. Typical improvements could include lazy loading, optimized change detection, route-level code splitting, efficient list rendering, caching, minimizing bundle size, and reducing unnecessary API requests.
How would you design a reliable frontend flow for accessing earned wages?
I would model the flow as explicit states such as eligibility, amount selection, submission, pending, success, and failure. The UI should handle retries, idempotent requests, stale data, loading states, and clear explanations so users always understand what happened to their money.
How do you approach TypeScript architecture in a large frontend codebase?
I use strict TypeScript settings, explicit domain types, discriminated unions for state machines, and well-defined API contracts. I avoid excessive generics or abstractions when they reduce readability, while ensuring critical financial calculations and data transformations are strongly typed.
How would you ensure secure handling of sensitive financial data in the frontend?
I would minimize sensitive data stored on the client, use secure transport and token-handling practices, avoid leaking information through logs or error messages, and enforce authorization on the backend. The frontend should also validate inputs and provide safe failure behavior, but never be treated as the security boundary.
How would you test a complex Angular feature before releasing it?
I would combine unit tests for business logic and components, integration tests for service and state interactions, and end-to-end tests for critical user journeys. For financial flows, I would also test retries, duplicate submissions, network failures, permission changes, and boundary values.
How would you decide between improving the existing architecture and performing a rewrite?
I would identify the specific user or delivery problem, measure the current constraints, and prefer incremental changes that reduce risk and produce value quickly. A rewrite is justified only when the existing system prevents meaningful progress and the migration can be broken into independently releasable steps.
How would you use AI effectively in frontend engineering while maintaining code quality?
I would use AI for exploration, boilerplate, debugging hypotheses, test generation, code review assistance, and documentation, while validating all output through tests, profiling, security review, and human judgment. Prompts and internal tooling should be aligned with repository conventions and should not expose confidential user or financial data.
How would you mentor frontend engineers and raise engineering standards on a fast-moving team?
I would establish clear standards for architecture, testing, accessibility, performance, and review quality, then reinforce them through pairing, focused feedback, and practical documentation. I would give engineers ownership of meaningful problems while providing enough context and support to help them grow independently.
