JS Pulse #8: The Creator of Rails Stopped Writing Code. Your Interview Didn't.

Plus what 600 job listings say about the skills that get you hired, and 5 remote roles worth applying to.

By Zamir Khotov, Founder of jsgurujobs.com

It has been a while since the last JS Pulse. I am Zamir, founder of jsgurujobs.com, and I spent that time building something you can use every day.

Every remote JavaScript job I publish now lands in a public list on GitHub, updated automatically every morning. Developers starred it 30+ times in its first days.

Here is what mattered over the last few weeks.

THE NUMBER: 71%

That is the share of JavaScript listings on my board in 2026 that ask for TypeScript. In 2025 it was 37%.

Over the same period, listings that name JavaScript itself dropped from 48% to 39%. Companies did not stop hiring JavaScript developers. They stopped writing the word. TypeScript is now the default they assume, so if it is not visible on your CV, recruiters searching for it will not find you.

Based on 587 tagged listings on jsgurujobs.com since March 2025. One job board, not the whole market.

THE BIG STORY: Your company codes with AI. Your interview pretends it doesn't exist.

At Rails World 2026, David Heinemeier Hansson, the creator of Ruby on Rails, told the room that at 37signals, "writing code by hand is now an exceptional state." Agents write the code by default. People step in when an agent gets it wrong.

Then he asked a room full of developers who still writes a real amount of code by hand every week. About five people raised their hands.

Now think about the last technical interview you did. Whiteboard. No AI. Write it from memory.

The job has moved from writing code to judging it. Sonar's 2026 State of Code survey found that 96% of developers don't fully trust that AI-generated code is correct, yet only 48% always check it before committing. Reading code you did not write and catching what is wrong with it is now the core skill. It is also the one most interviews never test.

Two practical moves if you have an interview coming up. Ask in the first call whether AI tools are allowed in the technical round. And prepare one concrete story about a bug an AI wrote that you caught before it shipped.

WORTH YOUR TIME: The JavaScript Developer Job Search Report 2026

I asked developers in seven polls what their job search actually looks like. 918 votes. 40% are still searching. 40% sent more than 100 applications.

One reply stayed with me. A JavaScript engineer with 7+ years of experience sent 6,000 applications in two years. Not Easy Apply spam. He researched every company and went through recruiters. Nothing.

Competence stopped being the filter. A referral gets read. The 6,001st application often doesn't.

5 JOBS WORTH APPLYING TO

Senior Full-Stack Engineer, ClassDojo
Remote, Americas time zones. $146,000–$215,000
The communication app used by teachers and families around the world. Node.js, React, AWS. The highest disclosed salary in this list.

Software Engineer (Next.js / React), CAS
Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Peru. $5K–$7K per month
You own the product end to end. Cursor and Claude Code are listed in the stack, a sign of where job descriptions are heading.

Middle Frontend Developer / Pixi.js, OptiPlay
Ukraine, Germany, Slovakia, Cyprus, Poland
Game development with TypeScript, Pixi.js and WebGL. A real middle-level role, which is rarer than it should be. More on that below.

Staff Frontend Engineer (TypeScript, React), SentinelOne
Czech Republic, Slovakia
AI-driven cybersecurity at scale. TypeScript, React, GraphQL. A staff-level frontend role based in Europe.

Senior Backend Engineer, Node.js, Wordly
United States, Argentina, Brazil, Canada
Pure Node.js backend work on a growing global team, open to Latin America as well as North America.

Some of these may already be closed. Fresh remote JavaScript jobs land every morning in one table on GitHub: company, role, where you can work from, and salary when it is listed. Open the list on GitHub. A star helps other developers find it.

THE MIDDLE GAP: 16 junior roles. 292 senior ones.

Out of 589 JavaScript listings on my board since March 2025, 16 are junior or intern roles. 292 are senior, lead, staff or principal. That is 18 to 1.

Companies are hiring the output of a career and almost nobody is paying for the start of one. If you are somewhere in the middle, one practical takeaway: don't filter yourself out by title. A lot of "senior" listings describe work a strong mid-level developer already does. Read the requirements, not the label.

TOOL OF THE MONTH: Vite+ 1.0 is stable

VoidZero, the team behind Vite, shipped Vite+ 1.0 on September 28. One command, vp, ties together the dev server, build, tests, linting and formatting: Vite 8, Vitest 5, Rolldown, tsdown and Oxlint as one tested stack. Open source under MIT.

If your project juggles separate configs for each of these tools, it is worth an afternoon. Vite+ on GitHub

ALSO HAPPENING

AI-written code doubled in a year. In Devographics' State of AI 2026 survey of 7,258 web developers, the average share of AI-generated code was 54%, up from 28% a year earlier.

Open tech jobs are up, not down. TrueUp data reported by Business Insider shows open roles at tech companies up nearly 14% this year, with hardware engineering up 52%. The market is not one market. It is hiring hard in some places and barely at all in others.

SOMETHING I AM BUILDING

I asked on LinkedIn whether developers would join a small group for people who are job hunting. A senior engineer reviews your CV. Mock interviews. Honest feedback on why you are not getting callbacks.

80+ developers said yes. 19 senior engineers offered to mentor. I am putting the first group together now. If you want in, message me on LinkedIn or subscribe to JS Pulse and reply to the next issue with IN.

Hiring JavaScript developers?

JS Pulse reaches nearly 7,000 JavaScript developers with an open rate around 50% across seven issues, plus 15,000+ followers on LinkedIn. One sponsor per issue, placed above the jobs.

That is it for JS Pulse #8. The job did not disappear. It moved from writing code to judging it. The developers who make that shift visible on their CV and in their interviews will be fine.
