Job Description

At Sorare, we want to hire passionate and innovative people! Are you looking for an empowering environment to grow professionally and personally? Join us in this tremendous adventure!

Our Mission

Sorare is a fantasy sports gaming experience and marketplace featuring officially licensed digital player cards. With Sorare you build legacy teams –  buying, selling, collecting and trading player cards -- and compete with them in free-to-play fantasy games to win rewards week over week and season over season, just like a professional sports owner.

Sorare is revolutionizing digital sports fandom, and now has over 5 million users across 180 countries. More than 300 iconic teams, clubs, and organizations including the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, MLS, NBA, NBPA, MLB, MLBPA, and many others have partnered with Sorare to build the next sports entertainment giant.

Our Journey

Sorare was founded by Nicolas Julia and Adrien Montfort in 2018 in Paris to bring sports fans across the globe closer to the players, teams, and leagues they love.

With 60-plus employees in France, Sorare is one of Europe’s fastest-growing startups and recently raised a $680 million Series B funding round from world-class investors including SoftBank, Accel, and Benchmark. Sorare also has athletes Serena Williams, Zinedine Zidane, Rio Ferdinand, Antoine Griezmann, Gerard Piqué, Blake Griffin, and Rudy Gobert among its investors, ambassadors, and advisors.

Our Values

  • Own your game: Think and act like an owner, and expect your teammates to do the same. You are an “entrepreneur” empowered to make decisions and own the outcomes.

  • Build with the fans, and for the fans: Have an obsession for high-quality user experiences. Engage our community with transparency to build trust and learn from the fans to deliver effective changes.

  • Win as a team: We are all in this together as one team, win or lose. Inspire your teammates to always be better.

Please note that Sorare is a hybrid work company; employees are required to be in office 3 days a week.

Sorare is seeking a Senior Frontend Engineer to join the team. We craft officially licensed digital sport cards that connect hundreds of thousands of fans to their favorite athletes every week, and we're growing the team to reach the millions to come.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll architect and develop delightful experiences for our fans, fueling their passion where fantasy meets live sport.

Responsibilities

  • Build and ship web features used weekly by hundreds of thousands of sport fans worldwide

  • Drive projects from inception to launch

  • Work with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to execute on our roadmap, owning metrics and outcomes

  • Use AI as a productivity multiplier (60% of our PRs with AI-assisted workflows)

  • Care deeply about performance, mobile experience, and maintainability

  • Help shape our web strategy, mobile included

Skills and requirements

  • You have 5+ years of frontend engineering experience with a clear track record of shipping high-traffic consumer web products

  • Hands-on experience with React and TypeScript

  • Production experience working with GraphQL

  • A real feel for web performance: load times, smoothness on mobile, degraded networks

  • You have fluent spoken and written communication skills in English and French

  • Comfort with speed: you ship fast, measure success, iterate

  • Bias for simplicity: you solve complex problems with simple solutions

  • Attention to detail: you strive for high quality from top to bottom, without confusing craftsmanship with perfectionism

  • Autonomous, pragmatic, and entrepreneurial: you take ownership of outcomes, make decisions with imperfect information, and drive projects forward without hand-holding

  • You are a team player who collaborates with empathy and respect

Nice to have

  • An appetite for backend work or for native mobile. Our needs shift from one period to the next, and we're looking for someone who isn't locked into a single platform.

Perks

  • Health Care: Great medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage fully covered by Sorare

  • Wellness Benefit: Sorare contributes to employees wellness (gym membership and sports classes in our office)

  • Commuter Benefits: Sorare contributes to the cost of your commute with 100% of Navigo pass reimbursed

  • Latest Tech: Sorare provides equipment such as laptop, monitor, etc.

  • Lunch: Sorare will contribute to their employees lunch vouchers

  • Time Off: we offer 5 weeks of paid holidays per year in addition to the national holidays and attached RTT

 Where you will work

  • Based in our Paris office

  • Hybrid setup: up to 2 days of remote work per week

 Our Hiring Process

  • Step 1: Hiring Manager Screen (25 min)

  • Step 2: Tech Lead Screen

  • Step 3: Case Study + Panel interviews

  • Step 4: Reference Check

  • Step 5: CEO call & Offer

Sorare is an equal opportunity employer committed to an inclusive and diverse workplace. All applicants will be considered for employment without attention to: race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran status, disability status, or any other basis prohibited by law.

As we are an international company, please note we speak English in the workplace. Please apply for the role with an English CV so we can process your application.

Apply for this Job

๐ŸŽฏ Who is this job for?

Senior level: This role is suitable for a Senior Frontend Engineer with 5+ years of experience delivering high-traffic consumer web products.

The candidate should have strong React, TypeScript, GraphQL, web performance, mobile optimization, English, and French communication skills.

They should be familiar with owning projects from inception to launch, collaborating cross-functionally, measuring outcomes, iterating quickly, and building maintainable frontend experiences, with backend or native mobile experience as a plus.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Potential Interview Questions

How would you architect a React and TypeScript application for a high-traffic fantasy sports platform?

I would structure the application around clear domain boundaries, reusable components, and strongly typed data contracts. I would also separate server state, UI state, and business logic to keep the codebase maintainable as features and teams grow.

How would you use GraphQL efficiently in a production frontend?

I would design focused queries and fragments, generate TypeScript types, and normalize or cache data where appropriate. I would also handle loading, error, pagination, and partial-data states explicitly while monitoring query performance and avoiding over-fetching.

What techniques would you use to improve web performance on mobile and degraded networks?

I would prioritize critical rendering paths, code-split routes, optimize images and fonts, minimize JavaScript, and use caching effectively. I would measure Core Web Vitals and real-user performance, then iterate based on data from realistic mobile and network conditions.

How would you design a responsive card marketplace experience for mobile users?

I would use a mobile-first layout, touch-friendly controls, responsive grids, and progressive disclosure for complex information. I would also optimize filtering, scrolling, and image loading so the experience remains smooth on smaller screens and slower connections.

How do you manage complex asynchronous states in React?

I distinguish between initial loading, background fetching, empty states, errors, and stale data rather than relying on a single loading flag. Shared server-state tools and well-defined component boundaries help keep transitions predictable and the UI responsive.

How would you prevent unnecessary React re-renders in a large application?

I would first use profiling to identify actual bottlenecks, then improve component boundaries, state locality, list virtualization, and stable data flow. Memoization can help selectively, but I would avoid adding it blindly because it increases complexity and does not replace good architecture.

How would you ensure type safety across React components and GraphQL APIs?

I would generate TypeScript types from the GraphQL schema and operations, use typed hooks or clients, and avoid duplicating domain models manually. Strict compiler settings and shared types for component props reduce runtime errors and make refactoring safer.

How would you approach testing a critical user flow such as buying or trading a digital player card?

I would cover business logic with unit tests, component behavior with integration tests, and the complete purchase flow with an end-to-end test. I would specifically test optimistic updates, failures, retries, authentication, accessibility, and behavior on mobile viewports.

How do you decide whether a frontend feature is ready to ship?

I validate functional requirements, accessibility, performance, analytics, error handling, and behavior across supported devices and networks. I prefer releasing incrementally with measurable success metrics, monitoring, and a rollback or mitigation plan.

How would you use AI-assisted development while maintaining code quality and security?

I would use AI for exploration, boilerplate, test generation, and debugging, but treat its output as untrusted code requiring review. I would verify correctness, privacy, performance, security, and consistency with project conventions before merging any AI-assisted change.
