Job Description
HackerRank helps companies like NVIDIA, Amazon, and Microsoft hire and upskill the next generation of developers based on skills, not pedigree. Our platform is trusted by over 2,500 of the world’s most innovative companies to build strong engineering teams ready for what’s next.
Software has entered an era where humans and AI build side by side. As this shift accelerates, the definition of strong technical talent is changing. We give companies better ways to identify and invest in next-generation skills.
People at HackerRank care deeply about the impact of their work and sweat the small details so our customers can be wildly successful with products they genuinely love to use. We move with urgency and believe great outcomes come from high standards
About the role
The Integrity team safeguards trust in HackerRank’s assessments, ensuring customers can rely on results without worrying about misuse or integrity gaps. With the rise of LLMs and other tools designed to game online evaluations, building robust and scalable integrity solutions has never been more critical.
As a Senior Frontend Engineer, you’ll play a key role in designing and building the platform that powers trustworthy assessments for millions of developers worldwide. You’ll craft solutions that not only detect and prevent misuse but also deliver a seamless, world-class developer experience. These systems must scale to support over 100K concurrent users, balancing performance, reliability, and usability. Your work will directly shape how candidates, recruiters, and hiring managers experience HackerRank.
What you’ll do
- Improve workflows and user experiences for candidates, recruiters, interviewers, and hiring managers - in collaboration with product and design.
- Build reusable, scalable frontend components that integrate seamlessly across HackerRank products.
- Champion frontend engineering best practices - performance, accessibility, testing, and code quality.
- Regularly measure and optimize key web performance metrics.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to raise product quality and user experience.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and interns.
Who you are
- An experienced frontend engineer with 4+ years building production-ready React applications.
- Strong in JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, with a sharp eye for accessibility and detail.
- Familiar with the modern frontend ecosystem - from Webpack and Babel to build tooling and bundlers.
- Someone who treats testing and debugging as part of the craft, not an afterthought.
- Confident in browser fundamentals, performance tuning, and building responsive interfaces.
- Open to AI-native tools that help you move faster, write better code, and raise the bar.
Even better if you have
- Experience with frontend security and protecting user trust.
- Exposure to TypeScript and frameworks beyond React.
- Comfort working with backend APIs and platform-level integrations
You will thrive in this role if
- You lead with product thinking and bring deep empathy for real customer problems.
- You turn ambiguity into clarity through structured problem-solving and crisp, high-quality execution.
- AI tools are part of your workflow - helping you move faster, solve smarter, and raise the bar on craftsmanship.
HackerRank is a proud equal employment opportunity and affirmative action employer. We provide equal opportunity to everyone for employment based on individual performance and qualification. 馃幆 Who is this job for?
This role suits a Senior Frontend Engineer with 4+ years of experience building scalable React applications and strong focus on performance and UX. You need solid skills in JavaScript, HTML, CSS, modern tooling (Webpack, Babel), testing, and browser performance optimization, plus experience working with APIs and large-scale systems. The candidate should be familiar with building reusable components, ensuring platform integrity/security, and mentoring others while delivering high-quality user-facing features.
馃挰 Potential Interview Questions
-
How would you design a frontend system that can scale to 100K+ concurrent users?
I would focus on efficient rendering, code splitting, CDN usage, and optimizing network requests. Load testing and performance monitoring are essential to ensure stability at scale. -
What techniques would you use to prevent cheating or misuse in an online assessment platform?
I would implement UI-level protections (copy/paste restrictions, tab switching detection), integrate backend validation, and design anomaly detection mechanisms while maintaining a smooth user experience. -
How do you approach performance optimization in large React applications?
I minimize unnecessary re-renders, use memoization, lazy loading, and optimize bundle size. Continuous monitoring of Core Web Vitals helps guide improvements. -
What are best practices for building reusable and scalable frontend components?
I design components with clear APIs, strong typing, and separation of concerns. Consistency and adherence to a design system ensure scalability. -
How do you ensure accessibility in complex frontend applications?
I use semantic HTML, ARIA attributes, keyboard navigation support, and test with accessibility tools. Accessibility is built in from the start, not added later. -
What role does testing play in your frontend development process?
Testing ensures reliability and prevents regressions; I use unit, integration, and end-to-end tests. Debugging and testing are integral parts of development. -
How do you handle integration with backend APIs in a scalable way?
I standardize API communication, handle loading/error states, and ensure proper caching and synchronization. Clear contracts between frontend and backend are critical. -
What are common security concerns in frontend applications and how do you address them?
I protect against XSS, CSRF, and data leaks by sanitizing inputs, using secure authentication flows, and avoiding sensitive data exposure in the client. -
How do you use AI tools to improve your frontend development workflow?
I use AI for generating boilerplate, refactoring, and writing tests, while ensuring proper validation and code quality through reviews and testing. -
How do you mentor junior engineers and improve team quality?
I provide constructive feedback, share best practices, and guide them through problem-solving. Mentorship helps raise overall engineering standards.
