π¬ Potential Interview Questions
-
How would you structure a large React application so it remains maintainable as the team and feature set grow?
I would organize it by feature or domain, keep shared UI and utilities in clearly separated layers, and enforce consistent patterns for state management, data fetching, and component composition. I would also introduce coding standards, reusable abstractions, and code reviews to keep the architecture scalable. -
What strategies would you use to optimize the performance of a React-based web application?
I would reduce unnecessary re-renders with memoization where appropriate, split bundles with lazy loading, and optimize expensive operations in rendering and state updates. I would also measure performance using tools like Lighthouse and React DevTools Profiler before making targeted improvements. -
How do you approach integrating backend APIs into a front-end application?
I prefer a clean data-access layer that isolates API calls from UI components, with consistent handling for loading, error, retry, and caching states. This makes the code easier to test, maintain, and evolve when backend contracts change. -
What is your approach to building reusable custom components and internal component libraries?
I design components with clear props, composability, accessibility, and consistent styling in mind so they can serve multiple use cases without becoming overly complex. Good documentation, versioning, and test coverage are essential for long-term adoption across teams. -
How would you ensure accessibility compliance, including WCAG 2.1 AA or Section 508 requirements, in a React application?
I build accessibility in from the start by using semantic HTML, proper keyboard navigation, focus management, sufficient color contrast, and screen-reader-friendly labels. I also validate with automated tools and manual testing to catch issues that tooling alone may miss. -
Can you explain how object-oriented programming principles apply in modern front-end development?
OOP principles like encapsulation, abstraction, and composition help structure complex UI logic into predictable, reusable modules. Even in React’s functional style, these ideas still influence how we design services, models, and component responsibilities. -
How do you lead a front-end team while still maintaining high code quality and delivery speed?
I set technical direction through architecture decisions, standards, and mentoring while removing blockers for the team. To maintain quality and speed, I rely on strong review practices, automation, and clear prioritization aligned with business goals. -
What role do automated tests play in front-end development, and what types of tests would you prioritize?
Automated tests help protect critical flows, reduce regressions, and increase confidence during fast iteration. I usually prioritize unit tests for business logic, integration tests for component behavior, and end-to-end tests for the most important user journeys. -
How would you use AI-assisted workflows to improve front-end development without compromising quality?
AI can accelerate boilerplate generation, test creation, refactoring suggestions, and documentation, but every output still needs human review. I treat it as a productivity tool that supports engineering judgment, not a replacement for architecture, validation, or code ownership. -
What would you consider when designing a user interface that is both visually appealing and highly usable for end users?
I would balance design consistency, accessibility, responsiveness, and performance while keeping the user’s goals central to every interaction. Close collaboration with designers, stakeholders, and end users is important to ensure the interface is intuitive and solves real problems.
