Luxury Presence is the leading digital platform revolutionizing the real estate industry for agents, teams, and brokerages. Our award-winning websites, cutting-edge marketing solutions, and AI-powered mobile platform empower real estate professionals to grow their business, operate more efficiently, and deliver exceptional service to their clients. Trusted by over 80,000 real estate professionals, including 31 of the nation’s 100 top-performing agents as published in the Wall Street Journal, Luxury Presence continues to set the standard for innovation and excellence in real estate technology.

The Role
As a Staff Software Engineer, you will serve as a technical leader within your team and across the broader engineering organization. You’ll drive high-impact initiatives that shape the future of our systems, architecture, and AI-first platform strategy. From setting architectural direction to mentoring others, you’ll play a key role in delivering intelligent, scalable, and user-centric products.

You’ll collaborate closely with product, design, and AI teams to launch features that leverage the latest advances in AI, while also championing engineering excellence and innovation across the org.

What You’ll Do

    • Lead the design and implementation of complex systems and platform capabilities
    • Drive large-scale, cross-functional projects that align technical strategy with business objectives
    • Define architectural patterns and standards that improve system scalability, resilience, and maintainability
    • Mentor engineers across teams, elevate technical skills, and influence career growth
    • Partner with product, design, and AI teams to deliver AI-native product experiences and developer tooling
    • Lead technical initiatives that improve developer efficiency, reduce risk, and unlock innovation
    • Foster a culture of excellence through technical leadership in design and code reviews
    • Share knowledge through documentation, workshops, and cross-team collaboration

What We’re Looking For

    • Passion for building in an AI-augmented environment
    • Familiarity with AI tools and agent workflows; experience building or deploying AI-driven products is a plus
    • 8+ years of professional experience in full-stack engineering
    • Deep expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, and modern front-end frameworks like React
    • Experience designing and operating scalable microservice architectures in cloud-native environments (AWS preferred)
    • Strong understanding of GraphQL, event-driven systems (Kafka/SQS), and distributed databases
    • Proven track record leading high-impact initiatives from concept through production
    • Expert-level grasp of software design principles such as SOLID, DI, and domain-driven design
    • Experience building SaaS platforms, ideally with multi-tenant architecture
    • Strong communicator and collaborator across product, design, AI, and engineering teams
    • Ability to connect technical decisions to customer impact and long-term business value

Tech Stack

    • Frontend: React, Tailwind, Apollo, SingleSPA
    • Backend: Node.js, TypeScript (microservices), Python ETLs
    • AI: LangChain, LangFuse, OpenRouter, Mastra
    • Data: PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch
    • Infrastructure: AWS, Kubernetes, Lambda
    • Messaging: Kafka, SQS
$200,000 - $230,000 a year
This compensation band applies to candidates based in the United States only.

🎯 Who is this job for?

This role is ideal for a Staff Engineer with 8+ years of full-stack experience, expert in TypeScript, Node.js, and React, with a strong grasp of scalable microservice architectures and cloud-native systems (AWS, Kubernetes). Candidates should have experience leading cross-functional projects, mentoring engineers, and building SaaS or multi-tenant platforms. Familiarity with AI tools and enthusiasm for building in an AI-first environment are key.

πŸ’¬ Potential Interview Questions

  1. What architectural strategies do you use to ensure scalability and reliability in a microservices environment?
I apply domain-driven design, use event-driven patterns (Kafka/SQS), enforce clear service boundaries, and deploy services with autoscaling and circuit breakers on cloud-native platforms like AWS.

  2. How have you incorporated AI tools like LangChain or OpenRouter into a production-grade application?
I’ve integrated LangChain to orchestrate LLM calls and OpenRouter to route AI model usage, enhancing app features like content generation or intelligent search with fallback mechanisms and usage tracking.

  3. What are the pros and cons of using GraphQL vs REST in a SaaS platform?
GraphQL enables flexible queries and reduces over-fetching, ideal for complex UIs, while REST offers simpler caching and is more mature; trade-offs depend on the use case and system complexity.

  4. How do you design and manage multi-tenant SaaS architectures?
I isolate tenant data at the DB level (shared or separate schemas), ensure access control via tenant-aware services, and implement tenant-specific throttling and observability.

  5. Describe your experience leading a high-impact engineering initiative.
I led a platform migration from monolith to microservices, designing the service boundaries, leading team sprints, and coordinating cross-team integration and testing for a successful phased rollout.

  6. What strategies do you use to reduce technical debt while still delivering features quickly?
I incorporate refactoring in sprint cycles, prioritize high-impact debt, advocate for automated testing, and use code health metrics to balance speed with long-term maintainability.

  7. How do you ensure developer productivity and operational excellence in a fast-growing team?
Standardize tooling (e.g., linters, CI/CD), maintain internal documentation, promote TDD, conduct regular retros, and establish clear guidelines around code quality and review.

  8. What are best practices for securing event-driven systems like Kafka or SQS?
Use encryption at rest and in transit, implement fine-grained IAM policies, validate event payloads, and enforce message authentication and idempotency.

  9. How do you mentor senior engineers and support their growth?
I provide stretch assignments, encourage technical leadership, pair on architecture reviews, offer feedback loops, and guide them in leading cross-functional initiatives.

  10. How do you evaluate whether to build vs. buy when introducing a new system capability?
I assess cost, time-to-market, maintenance burden, integration complexity, and strategic value; if a solution aligns with our core competency and we need control, I favor building.
